All you need to know about getting to Providence

Fly to Providence (PVD)

Only 15 minutes from downtown Providence, Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport (PVD) is easily accessible to Boston, Cape Cod and Southeastern New England. The airport is a popular alternative to Boston's Logan Airport and offers an average of 100 nonstop daily flights via major carriers, with convenient connecting options to the rest of the world.

Rideshare

Both Lyft and Uber are available at the airport. A one-way ride is approximately $25. The designated pick-up area is located on the outer arrivals roadway, which is directly outside the Lower Level Arrivals/Baggage Claim area of the terminal.

Taxi

Taxis are available in the "Primary Taxi Pick-Up" location outside the Lower Level Arrivals/Baggage Claim area of the terminal. Please follow the signage to this location. A one-way ride from the airport to downtown Providence is approximately $35, not including tip.

Rental Cars

Several national rental car companies offer services at the airport. FlightSimExpo offers discounted rental car options through Avis and Budget. Scroll to the bottom of this page for discount codes and additional information.

Rental car customer service counters at PVD are located at the InterLink facility, which is accessed via the Skywalk. The Skywalk connects the airport terminal and the Rental Car areas via an elevated walkway with moving sidewalks and electric cart services. Please follow the signage to this location.

Public Transit Options

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) offers bus travel to Kennedy Plaza Bus Hub, a 10-minute walk from the Convention Center and hotels in downtown Providence. RIPTA buses 1, 20 & 66 stop at the far end of the commercial roadway in front of the airport terminal. Buy tickets online.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MTBA) offers daily commuter rail service along the Providence Line from the airport to the train station in downtown Providence. From the train station, it’s a 10-minute walk to the Convention Center and hotels in downtown Providence. Learn more.

New England's Major Transportation Hub

Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) features nonstop air service from more than 100 worldwide destinations and is located less than 50 miles from Providence.

Several options are available for transit between BOS and downtown Providence at a variety of pricepoints. Click the box below for details.

Rideshare

Both Lyft and Uber are available at the airport. Each terminal has its own dedicated area for ride app pickup. Follow signs within the terminal to the correct location, or consult the directions provided within the app.

Rental Cars

Car rentals at BOS are located in a consolidated Rental Car Center that is accessed via a free shuttle bus that run every 5-6 minutes. Arriving passengers should take the On-Airport Shuttle (Routes 22, 33, or 55) from the terminals to the Rental Car Center. Follow signs for "Ground Transportation" and then look for "Shuttle Bus" on the terminal curb. The shuttle buses depart curbside on the lower level of each terminal.

Public Transit Options

Arriving at Boston Logan: The fastest and least expensive route from BOS to downtown Providence is via Amtrak or Commuter Rail from Boston's South Station. Take the free Silver Line 1 (SL1) bus to South Station. The bus picks up from all Logan Airport terminals. From South Station, take either the Providence/Stoughton Commuter Rail line or Amtrak to connect to Providence Station.

Departing from Boston Logan: For flying out of Boston, take either the Providence/Stoughton Commuter Rail line or Amtrak to Boston's South Station. Depending on time of day, booking Amtrak can be more affordable and convenient than Commuter Rail. Upon arrival at Boston’s South Station, purchase a separate fare for the Silver Line 1 (SL1) bus from South Station that stops at all Boston Logan Airport terminals.

As an alternative to train options, Peter Pan Bus Lines runs flexible service directly between BOS and downtown Providence. When booking, choose Downtown Providence as the destination. Buses arrive at and depart from the Rhode Island Convention Center.

Connections Throughout the Northeast

Providence is located on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor, America's busiest rail line. The route directly connects to Washington, D.C., New York City, and Boston, and offers convenient connections to other regional rail lines throughout the Northeast. High-speed Acela Express train service transports passengers from New York City to Providence in about 2.5 hours, or from Boston to Providence in 30 minutes. For tickets, visit amtrak.com.

The Providence Train Station is located directly downtown, a mere 5 blocks from the Rhode Island Convention Center and FlightSimExpo hotels. Taxis and rideshare are readily available outside the station. A one-way ride from the train station to area hotels is approximately $5.

Providence is located at the intersection of I-95 and I-195 and has 25% of the United States population within driving distance. It is one hour by car from Boston and three hours by car from New York City.

Once in Providence, the Rhode Island Convention Center, FlightSimExpo hotels, and numerous attractions and dining options are conveniently located in the downtown area within walking distance of each other.

EV chargers are located on Level 4 in the North Garage. Scan the QR Code on the side of the charger to register your car, pay, and begin the charging process. The posted parking rates apply to enter the parking facility to charge your vehicle.

We recommend flying into Providence Airport (PVD), or taking the train to downtown Providence, if you can. Flying in and out of PVD is hassle-free and can be easier than getting to and from Boston’s Logan Airport (BOS).

Downtown Providence is a very walkable area. The Rhode Island Convention Center, FlightSimExpo hotels, and numerous dining options are conveniently located within walking distance, so there’s no need to rent a car!
